GASPART GIVES UP ON LEAGUE TITLE
On Monday, Gaspart appeared on Spanish television to address subjects that have are the centre of the Camp Nou faithful's hearts.
Gaspart said: "The league is not lost, but Barca can no longer win it, we can lose it for the others," possibly an indication that if Barca fail then the club supremo does not want hated rivals Real Madrid to succeed."
Gaspart faced questions from a group of high-profile journalists and the contractual status of several stars dominated proceedings.
It would be a public relations disaster for Guardiola (pictured) to leave Camp Nou having been at Barcelona from youth team, whilst Rivaldo has revealed he will leave the club at the end of his contract.
Kluivert had allegedly asked for a massive wage increase but Gaspart played down these rumours.
On the subject of Guardiola, Gaspart said: "I have heard no report from Guardiola. Only he will decide his future, they were the words of the captain."
Speaking about the possible re-introduction of the much loved Johan Cruyff, Gaspart said: "We have never considered his return as a member of the coaching staff.
"Nothing was ever spoken about that subject."
Gaspart claimed that Llorenc Serra Ferrer will continue as coach at Camp Nou, with a technical team including one sport and one managerial.
Speaking about the rest of the year, Gaspart said: "It is now vital to obtain the best possible league position, to obtain a Champions League place, and if possible, finish second."
Gabriel Masfurroll, the vice-president and spokesman of the board of directors of Barca, said: "A good season? If the team wins the Copa del Rey, or the Uefa Cup and obtains a Champions League place."
