POSH END AWAY-DAY HOODOO

PETERBOROUGH virtually secured their Second Division status and ended their away-day hoodoo with a 2-1 victory at Bristol Rovers.

Barry Fry's side took a two-goal lead into the half-time interval thanks to strikes from Richie Hanlon and Jason Lee (pictured).

Hanlon capitalised on Andy Thomson's error to fire home a left-footed drive from 15 yards after 19 minutes and then the former Nottingham Forest ace converted David Farrell's cross from close-range, seven minutes before the break.

Scott Jones headed home Vitalijs Astafjevs's free-kick from no more than two yards out in the 48th minute, but Garry Thompson's side - who also lost to Port Vale on Monday - were denied, largely thanks to a fantastic goalkeeping display from Posh keeper Mark Tyler.

Bristol Rovers are now just three points adrift of fifth-bottom Cambridge, with a solitary game in hand.

Peterborough, who recorded their first away league victory in eight months, have reached 51 points - nine clear of relegation danger.

A Richard Sadlier goal after 17 minutes cemented Millwall`s position at the head of Division Two - as The Lions edged out Port Vale 1-0.

Sadlier collected a long free-kick on his head before turning and firing a shot with his right-foot into the far corner.
