EVERTON ALSO EYEING VICTOR

EVERTON are the latest club to run the rule over Villarreal's attacking midfielder Victor Fernandez.

A posse of scouts have been attending recent Liga matches at El Madrigal, with Newcastle showing a firm interest in the 26-year-old when seeing him impress against Barcelona, and the Merseysiders are also among the teams to be represented.

However, Victor ruled out a move to Tyneside, insisting he will only join a top club that is competing for honours, and that would obviously hit any hopes Toffees boss Walter Smith has of plotting an approach.

"I intend to stay at Villarreal as I am very satisfied here and would only leave to go to a big club that has serious ambitions to win titles," said the 11-goal star.

A number of other clubs from Spain and abroad have been keeping tabs on Victor, who is rated in the £4 million class.
