BORO INTEREST IN AMORUSO CONFIRMED
D`Amico responded to suggestions that the English outfit were set to launch a £2.4 million bid for the Italian, whose career at Ibrox is all but finished.
"Middlesbrough are interested in signing him," said D`Amico. "But there are a number of clubs who would like to sign him.
"Lorenzo is still under contract to Rangers but there is a strong possibility he will be playing his football elsewhere next season.
"I think he would like to go back to Italy. There are three or four teams in Serie A who have enquired about him although I don't want to name them."
The 29-year-old Italian made his comeback from injury in a midweek Under-21 game against Kilmarnock and Boro were known to have been present at the game.
West Ham were close to signing the former Fiorentina ace earlier this year, but a move to Upton Park broke down in January when manager Harry Redknapp refused to pay a large transfer fee. Fulham were also interested, but they opted for Newcastle`s Alain Goma instead.
The Teesside outfit would obviously not have a problem putting together a package to take the former Gers skipper to The Riverside, but Amoruso is unlikely to even consider the deal if they fail to retain their Premiership status, however, if they do, then he may well consider pursuing the deal.
Gianluca Festa is still transfer listed at the club, and Steve Vickers, Colin Cooper and Gary Pallister are all entering the twilight of there careers and so a new defender is seemingly on Boro`s summer shopping list.
Boro are unlikely to have a clear run at signing Amoruso as a number of Italian sides are known to be keen on the centre half. Lazio, Fiorentina, Perugia and Napoli were all interested earlier this year, and there is sure to be a number of Serie A clubs monitoring his situation this summer.
