IRELAND RECOVER TO BEAT ANDORRA
Mick McCarthy`s side, who can be a match for anyone but tend to struggle against the lesser nations, were shocked on 33 minutes when Ildefons Lima put Andorra in front with a fine header, the minnows` first ever goal on away soil in qualification football.
The goal appeared to jolt the Irish into life, Sunderland`s Kevin Kilbane collecting a fine Gary Doherty knock down to score.
Mark Kinsella then put the home team in front, slamming home from close-range after a good Mark Kennedy cross caused panic at the back.
An avalanche of goals never materialised, with only Gary Breen`s second-half effort adding to the scoreline, the Coventry man capitalising on a mistake from Andorra keeper Alfonso Sanchez to score.
It was tough luck on Sanchez, who performed admirably all evening, making particularly good saves from Doherty and Kinsella.
The parity remains in Group Two, with Holland defeating Cyprus 4-0 to remain three points in arrears to Eire.
