REAL BID FOR VERON

REAL MADRID have made an offer for Lazio's Argentine international midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron, according to the player's lawyer.

"Lazio have received an offer from Real Madrid for my client which is practically double what Cragnotti paid Parma for Veron two years ago," said Guiseppe Petrelli.

Veron's future at Lazio has been in doubt since the passport scandal broke at the start of the current season. The player is currently fighting allegations that he supplied false information to acquire an Italian passport.

The 26-year-old arrived in Italy in 1996 when he was signed by Sampdoria from Boca Juniors. After two seasons at Sampdoria he moved to Parma who sold him just a year later to Lazio for £18 million pounds.

Veron may be seen as the long-term successor to former skipper Fernando Redondo, who left last summer and has not really been replaced.
