FEYENOORD OPEN TALKS WITH JAN THE MAN

FEYENOORD have been given permission to speak to highly-rated striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink by his club FC Twente about a possible move to the De Kuip Stadium.

KPN Eredivisie rivals Ajax and PSV Eindhoven are also keen on the Dutch international ace as well as a number of clubs across Europe.

The player has been warned by Dutch national team boss Louis van Gaal that it would be better for his international career if he moved to a bigger club and he is expected to move in the summer.

Twente are keen to hang onto their most prized asset but they are resigned to losing him and are hoping to get a fee in the region of £5 million for the hit-man.

Feyenoord chairman Jorien van den Herik admitted that they are close to agreeing a deal for the 22-year-old.

"The fact that we made our interest in Vennegoor public makes it clear that we know the conditions and we can afford it. Otherwise we would not start negotiating," said van den Herik.

"We only make our interest public if we think we have a serious chance, not to keep our supporters happy."
