WILSON'S STRIKER SEARCH INTENSIFIES
As exclusively revealed by planetfootball.com, Wilson has already expressed an interest in signing recently released ex-Grimsby Town striker Daryl Clare, and he has now also admitted his desire to land the former Walsall target man.
"We need power and strength in the side next season. We saw that in our last game when Lee Howey played up front. He wasn't really fully fit yet his power caused Walsall real problems," said The Cobblers' boss.
Wilson also confessed that he thought his side was missing the physical presence of Steve Howard, who joined Luton Town on transfer deadline day: "We've missed Steve because I thought the trio of him, Marco (Gabbiadini) and Jamie (Forrester) was a good balance.
"We need a target-man up front and Kyle Lightbourne could be a target for us."
It is also thought that Wilson could be considering a bid for Exeter City forward Steve Flack as he looks to add some steel to his front line.
It has been reported that Cheltenham Town will be attempting to snatch Clare's signature from under the nose of The Cobblers, although planetfootball.com can reveal that The Robins are yet to express an interest in the former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international.
Reports that play-off bound Hull City are also interested in signing the Jersey-born hitman appear to be equally wide of the mark after manager Brian Little told us: "I'm not interested in signing anyone until the season is over."
The news that Wilson is looking to sign Clare - a very similar player to former Grimsby team-mate Forrester in both style and stature - is sure to re-ignite speculation that Forrester is set for a move to Millwall.
