LE TISS SIGNS NEW DEAL

SOUTHAMPTON legend Matt Le Tissier has put pen-to-paper on a new one-year contract with the South Coast side.

The 32-year-old playmaker has made just four appearances in this injury-ravaged season, but previously indicated that he was happy to stay with his only professional club.

Le Tissier is believed to have signed on for the same pay as his previous deal - rumoured to be £10,000 per week.

Saints chairman Rupert Lowe said the club were repaying the loyalty the player has shown them throughout his career and looks forward to seeing him run out to play in a red and white shirt at the new St Mary's stadium next season.

"Southampton Football Club are delighted to announce that Matthew Le Tissier has signed a one year contract extension," Lowe said.

"Everybody knows just what Matthew has done for this club in his career and he is hugely appreciated as an integral part of Southampton FC.

"He has endured a bad run with injuries over the last two seasons in particular, and we all hoping he can return to his brilliant best as the club enters this exciting new era.

"He is only 32, and if he can regain the high level of physical conditioning that is now required for Premiership footballers, he will be an enormous asset to Southampton FC.

"Matthew is well aware of what is required and I am sure he will be doing his utmost to ensure he returns ready to challenge for a first-team place next season."
