GALLIMORE COMMITS TO TOWN

TONY GALLIMORE has pledged his future to Grimsby Town, adding his name to a two-year contract with the North Lincolnshire club.

Prior to completing the deal, the 28-year-old left back was forced to endure the farce of having to wait while the name on the agreement was changed from that of former vice chairman Bryan Huxford to new chairman Peter Furneaux, following some vicious in-fighting amongst the club's directors just hours earlier.

Having finally inked his name, Gallimore said he hoped that the club's other out-of-contract players - notably Kevin Donovan, Peter Handyside, Paul Groves and Stacy Coldicott - would follow his lead and also commit to the club.

"I'm really pleased and hopeful some of the lads that are out of contract will be signing up soon," said the former Carlisle man. "Then we can build on what we've got and move on from there. Hopefully the majority will sign and the manager will add new players to the squad. we don't want to be in the position we've been in this year."

The Stoke-born player joined The Mariners from Carlisle for £125,000 in 1996, and has since gone on to make an impressive 235 appearances for the club. This season saw him struggle with injury and confidence, however, and he will be hoping to reassert his presence on the plans of manager Lennie Lawrence come the start of the new campaign.
