WHITBREAD BITTER AT POMPEY EXIT

PORTSMOUTH defender Adrian Whitbread has revealed his inner disappointment at the manner in which he has been forced out of the club.

The former Pompey skipper was attacked with a bottle in a nightclub on the South Coast and believes the club failed to support him over the incident.

The 29-year-old claimed former boss Tony Pulis even threatened to fine him for going clubbing while injured.

Whitbread joined Pompey in 1996 but his five-year association with the club now seems over and he is set to sign a two-year deal with Reading after a successful loan spell.

Whitbread didn't want to leave the club under a cloud but added: "You hear contrasting stories about who wanted me to leave the club.

"It leaves you disillusioned. I enjoyed it down there so it wasn't a nice way for it to end. So that's the end of that chapter in my life."
