ARGYLE SNAP UP COUGHLAN

PLYMOUTH ARGYLE have completed the signing of Irish centre-half Graham Coughlan, although it has also emerged that they missed out on landing the services of Paddy Connolly.

Argyle boss Paul Sturrock was clearly delighted to capture the 26-year-old defender, who has been a tower-of-strength in Livingston's rise to Scottish Premier League status.

"I am delighted to have signed Graham. With Craig Taylor injured and Mick Heathcote currently an unknown as far as fitness we need to strengthen the defensive area and Graham will be a welcome addition," he told the club's official website.

"He is a no nonsense defender, rugged and he wears his heart on his sleeve and above all he is a talker and will encourage those around him."

Meanwhile, the Plymouth manager also confirmed that the club has lost its race to sign St Johnstone striker Paddy Connolly, after he signed a new deal with the Perth-based outfit.

Sturrock remarked: "I am very disappointed because eveything was agreed with the player and he was going to come down this week to sign a contract and then this happens, but that's football. He would have been a great asset.

"What is pleasing though is the quality of player than we are able to approach and gain interest from, Connolly would have been a tremendous asset to Argyle."
