KAHN SET FOR NEW BAYERN DEAL

BAYERN MUNICH are set to reward goalkeeper Oliver Kahn with an improved contract to ensure that the shot-stopper finishes his career at the Olympic Stadium.

Kahn has a contract until 2003 but his heroics in this season's Champions League have attracted the attention of the goalkeeper's 'dream club' Real Madrid.

Kahn, 31, joined Bayern from Karlsruhe in 1994 for a then club record 3.7 million marks and quickly established himself as number one for club and country.

Bayern vice-president Karl-Heinz-Rummenigge believes Kahn is priceless, adding: "He is our best purchase in the last 15 years. He doesn't just save points, he wins them.

"We have always known his value to the team. In the final few months Oli carried the team and victory in the Champions League and Bundesliga wouldn't have been possible without Kahn."

The outspoken Rummenigge also stated the club's determination to keep the German international at the club, insisting: "We will do anything in our power to ensure that he ends his career at Bayern."

Kahn has never indicated that he wanted to leave the Bavarian club, admitting: "I have everything going for me here. I would have to ask myself whether I could simply sacrifice it all."

At the moment the shot-stopper has an annual salary of £1.3 million but Bayern manger Ottmar Hitzfeld will want to offer 'Oli' a vastly improved deal to keep the player who is regarded as "the best goalkeeper in the world."
