DE BOER FAILS SECOND DRUGS TEST

BARCELONA star Frank de Boer faces the prospect of a lengthy ban after the Catalan giants admitted that he tested positive for the banned substance nandrolone for the second time.

"We can confirm that Barcelona have been informed that the player's B-sample is positive,"said a spokesman for the Catalan club

"We have not yet been informed of the levels of nandrolone that have been detected, but we expect to be told of the results and of the proposed sanction for the player on June 14."

"Until then the player will continue playing for the club and we will consider what action we will take when we know the sanction that UEFA decides upon."

The Dutch international captain denied he had taken the drug after failing a doping test last month following the Uefa Cup quarter final win over Celta Vigo on March 15.

The 30-year-old, who has been investigating how they substance got into his system, could face a possible two-year ban from the game.

De Boer joins Dutch team-mate Edgar Davids, who has been banned indefinitely for testing positive for nandrolone, in failing the second drugs tests although both proclaim their innocence claiming they took the substance unwittingly in a meal supplement.

The defender has vowed to fight to clear his name declaring "The game starts now for real."  "I did not take anything and the fact that the test came out positive again, well, I have nothing to do with that."
