ASAMOAH DECLARES GERMAN LOYALTY

GHANA-BORN striker Gerald Asamoah has dismissed claims that he is not a 'true German' insisting that although he was not born in the country he feels Germany is his real home.

The Schalke target-man, who scored on his international debut against Slovakia on Tuesday, does not look like the average Lederhosen-wearing German but he insists: "I think German, play German and even dream in German.

I came to this country when I was 12 years old and regard Hannover as my home town."

The 22-year-old forward received a standing ovation from the Bremen crowd on Tuesday with his skill and pace offering a welcome alternative to the aerial threat of Oliver Bierhoff and Carsten Jancker.

Asamoah acknowledges that he "is the first real black player to play for Germany" but is adamant that there hasn't been any problems.

Indeed Germany seem to be recruiting more and more foreign-born stars with Brazilian Paulo Rink and Italian Oliver Neuville winning call-ups to the national team
