ZIEGE DISMISSES BAYERN MOVE STORY

CHRISTIAN ZIEGE has claimed that he was badly misquoted by the English tabloid press, who stated that he wanted a return to Bayern Munich.

The Liverpool defender was quoted on Monday as saying: "I'd be lying if I said it was not my aim to rejoin Bayern. Few clubs in Europe are as well run as they are

"I no longer feel that I am being given a fair chance at Liverpool and a change of scene would be the sensible thing for me.

"My current situation is far from the best that is for sure."

However, when made aware of the articles, Ziege, in an interview with German newsagency SID, said: "I was totally misunderstood.

"All I said is that I would advise any player to accept an offer from Bayern Munich."

The former Middlesbrough man did concede, though, that his situation is far from ideal at Liverpool, hinting that he would accept a change of scene if he is continually overlooked for selection by Reds boss Gerard Houllier.

Tottenham have been persistently linked with the German international in recent weeks, and Ziege`s latest statement could give Glenn Hoddle hope that he may accept a move to the capital.
