THREE AND EASY FOR ISRAEL

ISRAEL unsurprisingly ran rampant over Liechtenstein on Saturday and were rewarded for their first half performance with a comfortable 3-0 win in Valduz.

It was the visitors who took control of the game early on and were ahead after just two minutes, when Avi Nimni played in Haim Revivo and the Fenerbache star made no mistake, with the keeper nowhere.

A bad start became disastrous for Liechtenstein as their defence failed to clear a corner and Idan Tal (pictured) made it two, in the sixth minute.

Just after the quarter hour, Nimni made it three as Israel's leading domestic scorer pounced on a Revivo shot that was parried out and hammered it home.

The home keeper, Peter Jehle, was thankful to see the relentless assault on his goal relent as Israel, seeing their work done, were happy to knock the ball around.

Indeed the game petered out into a tame affair, although the home side did have an effort by Matthias Beck ruled out for offside with three minutes to go.

The win kept Israel's slim hopes for qualification to the 2002 tournament open, although Liechtenstein continue to live up to their whipping-boy status.
