MACCA URGES SOL TO SAY ADIOS TO ENGLAND
The 26-year-old Campbell has confirmed that he will leave White Hart Lane in the summer but his destination remains a mystery.
The defensive king-pin has been liked to European giants Barcelona and Liverpool but international team-mate McManaman is convinced that the 'Sol man' needs a move abroad to further his career adding: "I don't know whether he wants to stay in England but if I was him I would go and give myself a real chance abroad.
"He is a fantastic center-half and a fantastic player. If you are a great player then you can play anywhere.
"Maybe Sol is thinking more about Italy because they are more defensive there than in Spain."
The ex-Liverpool star has enjoyed a successful spell at the Bernabeu winning La Liga and picking up a Champions League winners medal in 2000 but is uncertain of Campbell's intentions, claiming: "I asked him what he was doing and he just replied: 'I'm not sure, I'm just not sure.'
"Whether Sol wants to stay in England I don't know because he is so quiet and secretive.
"Whether he gets £80,000 or £90,000, there isn't a huge amount of difference. But, in the end, he doesn't want sit at Tottenham and wait two or three years and still not be in the Champions League and still not have won a league title. I think he wants to play in the Champions League next season to give himself the best chance."
Defensive stalwart Campbell finds himself in a similar position to the one Steve McManaman was in two years ago at Liverpool.
The England international is out of contract at Spurs enabling him to command a huge salary and McManaman understands the precarious position the defender is in, stating: "I don't think Sol is a greedy man.
"I don't know what his demands are but he has said the most important thing is that he wants to go and play against the best of the world and why not?"
The England winger, 28, believes that Spanish titans Real Madrid and Barcelona are a cut above clubs in England, adding: "These are monumentally huge clubs-much, much bigger than anything in England regardless of the fact that Manchester United are the most valuable club in the world."
Campbell has been heavily linked with a move to Premiership sides Liverpool and local rivals Arsenal with the lure of Champions League football appealing to the England international.
