EVERTON CONFIRM GAZZA`S CLINIC TRIP
A Sunday tabloid newspaper revealed that the former England international had flown to Arizona in a bid to regain fitness and get his ailing career back on track.
Everton would not confirm claims that the 34-year-old was being treated for alcohol and tranquiliser addiction at the Meadows Clinic, stating that they hope the former Newcastle ace will return for pre-season training in July.
Toffees communications officer Ian Ross said: "We expect Paul back for pre-season training on July 11 with the rest of his team-mates after what was in many ways a difficult and trying season for him.
"Paul is currently preparing himself physically and mentally to resume his career come August. He is working hard and concentrating his efforts on restoring himself to full fitness.
"Paul is as enthusiastic as ever about his football and extremely determined to make a fresh start and repay Everton for the faith they showed in him 12 months ago."
Gascoigne made a bright start to his Everton career last season, finding a level of form that had not been seen since Euro 96, but he was struck down by a thigh injury against Aston Villa in November and only made two further first-team appearances.
It had been suggested that manager Walter Smith would offload Gascoigne in the summer, but it would now seem that he will be given a chance to find form.
