BYRNE SET FOR MACCLESFIELD SWITCH

STOCKPORT midfielder Chris Byrne is expected to sign for Third Division Macclesfield Town when he returns from holiday.

The 26-year-old began his career at Moss Rose and was also loaned to the club during the 1999/2000 season, and County skipper Mike Flynn (pictured) is incredulous as to his club's decision to allow the Hume-born playmaker to leave.

"This is a bad day for Stockport County," he commented.

"Chris has unbelievable talent. He's so unfortunate to have suffered two serious injuries in two years and missed most of his contract.

"He made a big contribution to the side, getting into the box and scoring goals."

Byrne registered 11 league goals in 57 appearances for Stockport after joining them from Sunderland in 1997.
