SCHALKE DENY MPENZA LINK

ACCORDING to reports in the German media Schalke striker Emile Mpenza could be set for a move abroad with his agent confirming that there is Italian interest in the player.

The Belgian international, 22, formed a deadly partnership with Ebbe Sand last season scoring 13 goals and registering 11 assists.

The agent of the 'Black Gazelle' Luciano d'Onofrio fuelled transfer speculation declaring: "Juventus definitely want to sign Emile."

The Schalke board believe the agent's comments are aimed at getting Mpenza a pay rise, so that he is on par with top earner Sand at an estimated £2 million a year.

"The chap should stop making a drama out of everything. We gave Mpenza a pay rise a while ago and there was no fuss," remarked general manager Rudi Assauer.

The Gelsenkirchen club recently signed Victor Agali from Hansa Rostock for £3 million and with Gerald Asamoah, Ebbe Sand and Emile Mpenza all vying for a place up front a substantial bid could encourage coach Huub Stevens to part with a member of the quartet.
