ATLETICO MISS OUT ON VERON

WITH Atletico Madrid having failed to achieve promotion to the Primera Liga, after an exciting finish saw them lose out on goal difference to Tenerife, news of those that got away, including Juan Sebastian Veron, is beginning to break.

Three clubs entered the final day within a point of each other, but with Atletico, Tenerife and Real Betis all winning, it was the Rojiblancos that missed out.

Now news that incoming coach Luis Aragones and sporting director Paulo Futre had prepared two different plans, one for each division has emerged.

If Atletico had been promoted, Futre believed he was close to sealing the transfer of Veron, but met with his agent on Monday to say the move could not be completed as the club did not have the money for the Argentine's wages.

Atletico have had to switch their intentions to ensuring that the Samuel Eto'o transfer is completed.

Aragones has already attempted to persuade the player to drop a division to the Segunda, whilst Dario Silva, who has indicated he will be leaving Malaga, is another name mentioned on Atletico's list.
