HUTCHINSON - PETIT IS A CHELSEA PLAYER
It seemed a strange move for Sir Alex Ferguson to make, with the centre of The Red Devils midfield dominated by Roy Keane and ably backed up by Nicky Butt.
However, Hutchison moved to cement Petit's transfer and set the record straight.
With United representatives believed to be in Spain holding talks with Petit, Chelsea were adamant that their £7 million offer would go through.
Hutchison stated that the French star had already signed a contract with the West London side, saying: "You had better ask Sir Alex Ferguson what is going on.
"But as far as I'm aware, Manchester United were told on Thursday that Emmanuel Petit had signed for Chelsea.
"We have signed contracts both with the club (Barcelona) and with the player and as far as we're concerned he will be a Chelsea player from July 1.
"I don't know for sure, but maybe this is some mischief-making."
