DUNDEE DUO TO SHARE NEW STADIUM

DUNDEE and city neighbours United have reached an agreement to share a new stadium if Scotland wins their bid to host the 2008 European Championships.

The clubs will quit Dens Park and Tannadice and move to a new purpose-built 30,000-seater ground on the edge of the city.

The historic agreement came after a meeting with council chiefs and business leaders and follows Aberdeen's announcement they are pressing ahead with plans for new facilities away from Pittodrie.

Nick Day, of Scottish Enterprise, Tayside, said: "This has been an extremely positive meeting. We recognise this is a great opportunity for Dundee and we're determined to secure the best possible outcome for the city."

Meanwhile, United boss Alex Smith has offered former Stockport County striker Brian Carrigan a trial as a chance to get his career back on track.

The 21-year-old, who played under Smith at Clyde, was sacked by County two months ago after a serious breach of conduct but Smith is keen to have a look at him during his side's pre-season preparations.

"It is entirely up to Brian where his future lies," said Smith. "I am offering him the chance to earn himself a contract at Tannadice.

"We will see how much he wants to stay in the game during his spell as our guest at training."
