TAYLOR BUSY RESHAPING SQUAD

IAN WALKER is set to seal his move to Leicester City, and he could be joined at Filbert Street by Ipswich Town striker James Scowcroft.

Foxes boss Peter Taylor is busy reshaping his squad ahead of the new season and he confirmed an interest in Scowcroft, even though Town have expressed a reluctance to sell the England Under-21 international.

Walker, meanwhile, is flying back from his summer vacation in order to undertake a medical with his next employers.

A press conference is expected to be announced, unveiling the Tottenham keeper as Taylor's latest acquisition at some stage next week.

Taylor is keen on signing Scowcroft, if he fails to land top striking target John Hartson.

"Because I have worked with the player (Scowcroft) before, people would  naturally make the connection with me," he declared.

"Of course, everyone knows that I want a new front man to boost the strength of the squad here.

"I admit he is the sort of player we are looking for and, as I have said before, if there was a chance of any such player becoming available, we might be interested."

Taylor also confirmed an interest in Manchester United's free agent Denis Irwin.

"He is one player I do respect a lot," said the former Gillingham boss. "But I haven't done anything about it. However, he is a player I would be interested in."

The 35-year-old former Republic of Ireland international has plenty of admirers and Sir Alex Ferguson wants him to commit to another season at Old Trafford.

The local Midlands press is also suggesting Leicester could be one of the two Premiership sides keen on buying Sporting Lisbon striker Mbo Mpenza.
