CRAGNOTTI: I WILL QUIT LAZIO

SERGIO CRAGNOTTI has sensationally stated that he will quit as Lazio president, after violent demonstrations against the transfer of Pavel Nedved left him disillusioned with football.

The Roman supremo has stated that he will step down imminently after fans sprayed graffiti on his house and stoned club buildings.

"In this world of football I no longer feel I can be part," said Cragnotti. "My stay at Lazio will be brief.

"I will leave the presidency, then it will be up to [sponsors] Cirio to decide on investments.

"Lazio is a stock-market club - if the fans want to assume control then they can."

Things came to a head with the news that Lazio star Nedved was set for a move to Juventus.

The Czech midfielder shocked the fans of the Roman club by admitting that he would be leaving, and sparked angry reaction that turned violent on Wednesday night.

Cragnotti has hinted in the past that he would step down as president, but it appears that he is shocked by the way the fans of the club have turned against him.

"I don't want to undo Lazio, the investments will continue and the club will continue to function through its shareholders, added Cragnotti. "But I want to live peacefully.

"I will now look to sell my shares in the club."
