REDS DISMISS VAN DER SAR RUMOUR
The Dutchman struggled in Turin last season, and his place has been plunged into doubt following the arrival of Italian international Gianluigi Buffon from Parma.
Reds custodian Sander Westerveld has also had his critics, and reports in Sunday`s written press claimed that Gerard Houllier was looking at van der Sar to increase competition at Anfield.
However, The Reds have quickly dismissed any possibility of a move.
A spokesman said on the official club website: "There is absolutely no truth in this speculation linking us with this player whatsoever."
Meanwhile, Liverpool are mourning the death of another legendary Anfield figure.
Following the recent passings of Billy Liddell and Joe Fagan, vice-president Tom Saunders died on Sunday morning from a heart condition.
Saunders occupied a variety of roles within the club, and a statement on the official website read: "Tom Saunders made a huge contribution to the success enjoyed by Liverpool Football Club over the last 30 years.
"A man of humility and modesty, Tom never sought the limelight and always put the interests of the club before any want of personal recognition.
"A gentleman whose wide counsel was greatly appreciated, he had the special gift of being able to move in many different circles. Players, technical staff and directors turned to him for advice, happy to confide in him safe in the knowledge that he would always have the best interests of that individual at heart.
"Always a welcome visitor at Melwood and in the dressing room after games, Tom will be sadly missed by everyone at Anfield.
"All our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Anne and their family and friends at this very sad time."
