JUVE'S VIERI TALKS HIT SNAG

JUVENTUS have accepted a bid from Valencia for Darko Kovacevic but the Serie A side are keeping the deal on ice until the conclusion of the Christian Vieri talks.

Juve are keen to use Kovacevic as a makeweight in a bid to bring Vieri to the Stadio Delle Alpi but Inter insist the Bianconeri include David Trezeguet, again linked with Liverpool in the English press on Wednesday, instead.

The French marksman has, however, made it clear he only wishes to play for Juventus in Italy and the club insist he is simply not available.

Discussions between Juventus director Luciano Moggi and Inter president Massimo Moratti stalled over the fee for Vieri with Inter believed to be demanding almost £40 million for the striker.

However, the talks have not yet been closed and there is still hope that a transfer can be pushed through.

"It has not all ended," said Moggi. "There is still space for manoeuvre in having the player.

"Juve are ready to give the attacker Kovacevic in exchange but not Trezeguet as Moratti expects."

Valencia have tabled a bid of £11 million for Kovacevic and the former Sheffield Wednesday forward is understood to be keen to leave after two frustrating seasons on the bench at Juventus.
