ALI TO END BERLIN DAEI-S

IRAN star Ali Daei has revealed that he will leave Hertha Berlin when his contract expires at the end of next season.

The 1999 Asian Player of The Year joined the capital side from Bayern Munich two years ago but spent most of last term pressing the Berlin bench.

"My contract expires in one-year's time and after that I will be a free player so Hertha will not gain anything if I move from the club, which is very important for me because I can choose my future club easier," declared the Iranian international.

Hertha chiefs accused the player of putting country before club with Daei missing a host of Bundesliga games on account of international duty.

"I miss a lot of games because the national team matches clash with important league and European matches.

"Also I have to be away for some time whenever I play for Iran. Due to this coaches can't count on me because suddenly I might have to leave for a period of time so I lose the consistency and this hurts my chances for the team," stated the 32-year-old.

The veteran striker is unlikely to be short of suitors when his contract runs out in 2002 having already revealed:

"I had offers from England, Scotland, Turkey and Greece."
