ZZ TOPS FEE LIST WITH RECORD REAL MOVE

ZINEDINE ZIDANE has completed his £42 million, world record breaking move, from Juventus to Real Madrid and has been unveiled at a press conference in the Spanish capital after signing a four-year deal.

The fee supercedes that of the £37.5 million Real forked out for Luis Figo last summer in a raid on their arch-rivals Barcelona.

Next season is Real's centenary year and president Florentino Perez has assembled a squad that will surely challenge for honours on all fronts, given a devastating midfield, including Figo and Zidane, solid defence commanded by Fernando Hierro, a potential international for years to come in Iker Casillas in goal and the striking force of Fernando Morientes and Raul up-front.

Zidane is believed to be trying to persuade Real to get his French international team-mate Patrick Vieira to join him at the Santiago Bernabeu, but even without the Arsenal star it is hard to imagine a better midfield in world football at this time.

Perez introduced Zidane to the waiting world media, along with Real legend Alfredo di Stefano and was in triumphant mood.

"There are players who have been born to play in Real Madrid and Zidane is one of them," said Perez.  "Thank you very much Zinedine Zidane in wanting to come to Real Madrid and to continue fermenting the legend of Real Madrid."

Di Stefano said: "We are delighted that Zidane has come.  I hope he triumphs with Real Madrid like he has done with la Juve and the French team."

Zidane said: "I am anxious to pull on the Real Madrid shirt.

"It is an honor to come to Real Madrid.  I've waited for this moment with impatience.  I have spent five years with Juve and now is the best moment to play in Spain.

"Of course I am very happy about signing for the best club in the world.  Thank you very much and I am anxious to put on the  Real Madrid shirt."

As a signal of their intention to make Zidane see out his deal, Real have put a staggering buy out fee of £108.74 million on the French maestro's contract.
