OVERMARS A FAN OF RANGERS

BARCELONA winger Marc Overmars has confessed his admiration for Rangers and hinted that he would one day like to join up with best friend and international team-mate Ronald de Boer at the Glasgow club.

The former Arsenal player graduated through the Ajax youth system alongside de Boer and was disappointed to see the 30-year-old leave Camp Nou just after his arrival.

"I have to be honest. Everyone is positive about Rangers when I speak to them.

"Ronald tells me that for six or seven matches in Scotland the atmosphere is unbelievable. For me that is very important.

"Last year I was really hoping Rangers would make the second round of the Champions League," declared the Dutch international.

Overmars was a surprise spectator at Rangers' pre-season freindly with Dutch amateur side WHC Wezep on Monday prompting inevitable media speculation linking the player to Glasgow.

The flying Dutchman has quickly established himself as a crowd favourite with the Catalan club and Barca are unlikely to sell £25 million rated Overmars who is in the peak of his career at 28.

Meanwhile, the speedy wideman predicts that his compatriot de Boer will show his true colours with Rangers next season.

The twin brother of Barca's Frank De Boer has sruggled with fitness and form since his transfer to Ibrox and is looking to endear himself to the Gers faithful next term.

"He is just looking for a bit more power and rhythm then I'm sure we will see the best of him.

"I am sure his best position is in behind the two strikers. I've played with him for Ajax, Barcelona and Holland so I should know," added Overmars.
