HEGGEM POSITIVE DESPITE INJURY BLOW

LIVERPOOL defender Vegard Heggem has received another injury setback after he picked up a groin strain in the club's 3-2 friendly win against Bayer Leverkusen.

The Norwegian international played little part in last season' s historic treble cup win due to injury has once again been struck down with injury, although the current strain is not thought to be too bad.

Heggem said that although he will miss the pre-season tour of the Far East, he is still positive that he will be back in action for the start of the new season.

"When you have had as many injury setbacks as I have had, you learn how to stay positive," said Heggem.

"Although a groin strain means I won't be travelling with Liverpool to Singapore, my attitude is still a positive one.

"This is because my first week of pre-season training has been by far my best for a few years. I really feel I have got back to my best form and I am enjoying my football. I haven't enjoyed it this much for a long time.

"Hopefully with the right treatment this latest problem will be sorted out quite soon. I want to build on this positive week of training and take that form into other pre-season games. Yes, this groin strain is a setback, but I won't let it get me down."

Heggem will remain on Merseyside for treatment but should be able to play a part in the Amsterdam tournament later in July, and would then be fit enough to be available for the Charity Shield and the new season.
