YORK END INTEREST IN BOWER

YORK CITY have dropped their interest in Bradford defender Mark Bower and released Craig Skinner from the remainder of his contract.

Bower impressed Minstermen boss Terry Dolan during two loan spells last term, and the former Hull manager was initially keen to keep him at Bootham Crescent, but he has now cooled his interest.

The reason behind Dolan`s about-turn has been the return to fitness of defender Gary Hobson, meaning the need to keep Bower receded.

Dolan elaborated on his decision, saying: "With Gary Hobson fit that area is no longer a problem for us.

"He is back training and has no problems so at this stage Mark is not in my thinking."

The parting with Skinner was by mutual consent and will come as a relief to Dolan.

The winger hardly figured last term and was released from his contract, but was reinstated after he appealed.

Skinner joined York in March 1999 from Wrexham, but made only ten appearances in total.
