BERKOVIC SIGNS FOR CITY
PLANETFOOTBALL can confirm that Manchester City have swooped to sign Israeli international Eyal Berkovic on a four-year deal, for a fee of around £1.5 million.
The Celtic midfielder has been looking to leave Parkhead for sometime after falling out-of-favour with Bhoys boss Martin O'Neill and spent the latter half of last season on loan at Blackburn.
Things got worse for the former West Ham star as he was booed by Celtic fans at the QPR game last weekend and he did not travel with the rest of the squad for a game with Porto as he tried to sort out his future.
Southampton, Aston Villa and Fulham were all strongly linked, but Citizens boss Kevin Keegan has moved swiftly to complete the deal for the 29-year-old.
The player's agent Pini Zahavi admitted to planetfootball that Berkovic was delighted to be making the move to City
"He has agreed terms with City and he is delighted to join such a big club," said Zahavi. " He feels he is joining a warm and welcoming club wants to put the unpleasant times at Celtic behind him."
"He is looking forward to being part of trying to take Manchester City back to The Premiership."
Keegan was delighted to have added the former Southampton star to the squad at Maine Road.
"Eyal will bring additional experience and creativity to the squad," said Keegan.
The highly-rated playmaker had made public his disappointment at the lack of offers for his services but now he has got his wish to move away from Parkhead after an unhappy two-year spell in Scotland.
Berkovic becomes Keegan's third signing of the summer following the arrivals of defenders Simon Colosimo and Stuart Pearce as he tries to build a side capable of winning promotion back to The Premiership at the first attempt.
