WANCHOPE REVEALS BOCA DESIRE
The Costa Rican striker's form, with four goals in three games, has fired his country into a quarter-final clash with Uruguay and also seen his stock rise in South American football.
Speaking to Ole, Wanchope revealed: "It would delight me to play for Boca."
The gangling striker thinks that he would fit into the Bombonera, Boca's ground, nicknamed the Chocolate Box.
La Cobra as Wanchope is known in South America stated he was in regular contact with his uncle, Carlos Watson, the Under-21 coach of Costa Rica and it is he that has fired the striker's interest in Argentinian football.
When asked about a potential move to Boca, Wanchope replied: "Something was said to me, but I thought it was a joke.
"I am proud that they like my style of play. I know that there are excellent players and football in Argentina is at a very good level.
"For that reason, that they have labelled me the star of the Copa America, it is something that makes me very happy."
Wanchope was delighted to be likened to Diego Maradona, another star of the unpredictable.
"Maradona! They are major words. Although I only resemble him a little bit. Although like Diego with Argentina, I am associated with Costa Rica. I am like an ambassador."
Having been asked about Argentina, Wanchope replied: "I do not honestly know much. I had a team-mate, Horacio Carbonari that spoke to me about Rosario (Central). Also I speak a lot with my uncle Carlos Watson, who is very knowledgeable about Argentinian football.
"We spoke much about Boca. I know that they are the champions of the Americas and the world. I saw some games, like the end with Cruz Azul.
"It would be nice (to play in Argentinian football). The fever for football they have is fantastic. It is unobtainable.
"Someday I would like to play for Boca. I know the Boca fans are very passionate. That I like."
