LIZARAZU REJECTS UNITED SWITCH

BAYERN MUNICH`S Bixente Lizarazu has revealed that he has snubbed an offer from Manchester United and confirmed that he intends to see out the remaining two years of his current contract with the European Champions.

The 31-year left sided defender has revealed that the English champions have made him an offer, but for many reasons he has decided to remain in Germany.

"For a few weeks I have said that I intended to meet with my representatives to discuss my future," said the former Bordeaux and Athletic Bilbao ace.

"We did this last weekend and I can reveal that I will continue with Bayern.

"I have taken this decision for various reason, firstly I am bound for two years under my current contract, and secondly it has always been good for me at Bayern and I have had great times with the club.

"I have just had an unforgettable season.

"Every time I have a small problem with Bayern, we sit around and discuss it and settle the disagreement. Then there is the fact that we are still a very competitive team and I am sure we will have more success.

"We go for the Super Cup, Intercontinental Cup, Bundesliga and the Champions League this year.

"There is also my relationship with coach Ottmar Hitzfeld, he has been very significant in my career.

"The French team was also a significant factor in my decision, I want to prepare for the World Cup in the best conditions and in an environment which I know well.

Lizarazu then confirmed he had the option to move to Old Trafford.

"I am very flattered by the offers that have been made to me, in particular that of Manchester United, it is always pleasant to see that your work is recognised," he said.

"But in my own interest I think that it is better that I continue with Bayern, I do not wish to prolong my contract, which still has two years to run.

The Frenchman then revealed that he would not be renewing his contract with Bayern when his current deal expires.

"There are still great chances for me in the future and because I am free in two years, I can make my choice without any constraint over the future of my career," Lizarazu confirmed.
