AERTS WOULD NOT TAKE DRUG TEST

FC DEN BOSCH have confirmed that the reason for the breakdown of Maikel Aerts`s transfer to Wolves was his decision not to take a routine drug test.

Wolves were keen to bring the Dutch keeper to Molineux to compete with Michael Oakes, but decided to sign Stephen Bywater on loan from West Ham despite earlier agreeing a deal with Den Bosch.

At the time, neither club would reveal the reason behind the breakdown, but Den Bosch have now confirmed that it was the player`s reluctance to take a drug test that brought about the collapse.

"Maikel just did not want to take a test," stated Den Bosch spokesman Han Kuijpers. "After hours of talking with the English, he refused."

Aerts was found guilty of using cocaine in 1997, and served a drugs ban while second choice at Den Bosch.

The 25-year-old would now appear to be in limbo, as Den Bosch recently moved to replace him by clinching a deal for Kris Mampaey.
