MATT READY FOR SAINTS REVIVAL

SOUTHAMPTON manager Stuart Gray believes that Matthew Le Tissier could be set to mount a Premiership revival, as the former England international is at 'his fittest for five years'.

The talented but temperamental midfielder appeared to be on his way out of The Saints last term, after failing to make an impression due to a lack of fitness, but Gray has confirmed that the player has not missed a single day of training and is ready to stake his claim for a place in the team.

Speaking about the 32-year-old`s readiness for the new season, Gray said: "Matt is now probably lighter and fitter than in the last five years.

"Matt has not missed a day`s training throughout pre-season.

"His quality has never been in question, but now he has the fitness to go with it.

"He hardly did any work before last season, so was always playing catch up and kept picking up niggling injuries.

"Now, if he gets a niggle he has the groundwork behind him and it should not hamper him too much."
