KOHLER URGED TO CARRY ON

MATTHIAS SAMMER is keen to persuade veteran defender Jurgen Kohler to continue playing for one more season and help Borussia Dortmund to wrestle the Bundesliga crown away from Bayern Munich.

Kohler declared his intention to retire at the end of the approaching season at the age of 35, claiming: "You should go out while you are still at the top."

However, Borussia boss Sammer believes the 1990 World Cup winner has the experience and mental ability to compensate for his weary legs.

"There is no rerason why he should stop now," stated the ex-Internazionale star.

Meanwhile, BVB striker Giuseppe Reina is poised to extend his stay at the Westfalen in spite of the big-money signings of Jan Koller and Marcio Amoroso.

"I had a good chat with Michael Zorc (director of sport) and I can see myself signing an extension with Dortmund.

"It is no secret that this club and their great fans have a place in my heart," revealed Reina.

The powerful target-man is a lifelong Dortmund supporter who used to watch the team from the stands as a boy.
