BERGKAMP TO STAY AT HIGHBURY

THE non-flying Dutchman Dennis Bergkamp has insisted that he wants to finish his career at Arsenal in spite of the intense competition for a striking berth.

The 32-year-old forward knows that five does not fit into two with new £8 million signing Francis Jeffers, Thierry Henry, Sylvian Wiltord and Nwankwo Kanu and himself all vying for a forward role.

However, the ex-Ajax star remains confident in his own ability and is prepared to fight for a starting place.

"My ambition is to finish my career at Arsenal - that was my ambition when I signed a new deal six months ago and nothing that has happened since then has changed my mind.

"If you are going to win the Premiership you need a lot of players and our squad was a bit light before.

"The extra competition will be good for us. I want Arsenal to do well and nothing has changed," stated Bergkamp.
