FULHAM MAKE VAN DER SAR SWOOP

FULHAM have completed the signing of Dutch international goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar from Juventus, subject to a medical on Wednesday.

The Cottagers announced that the Dutch number one, with 44 caps to his name, had agreed a four-year deal on Tuesday evening.

Van der Sar had been forced out of Juventus after the record signing of Gianluigi Buffon from Parma earlier in the summer.

"I am happy and relieved to have signed for Fulham," Van der Sar said on the official Fulham website. "The plans that Fulham Football Club presented to me were impressive and I especially like the ambition that the club has.

"I spoke with the manager and we had a good conversation about the way he wants to play. Jean Tigana wants to go to the top with Fulham and he proved he can do that with Monaco, I like that ambition.

"At Ajax, Juventus and for Holland I have played with top teams, and now I want to use my experience to reach the same goal with Fulham."

Jean Tigana was delighted with the signing of the Juve keeper, his first high profile capture of the close season after a number of failed attempts to land the likes of John Arne Riise and Jan Koller.

"We are delighted to welcome Edwin to Fulham," Tigana said. "His playing ability has been proven at the very highest level both domestically and internationally and we believe that he will be a great asset to the squad."

The 30-year-old shot-stopper, who had been linked with a return to his former club Ajax, endured an inconsistent campaign at the Stadio Delle Alpi last term and was forced to begin pre-season without a squad number and training with the youth team.
