ERANIO MAY RETURN TO DERBY

DERBY COUNTY manager Jim Smith has revealed that Stefano Eranio could be set for a return to Pride Park.

The 32-year-old became a firm favourite during his four years at Pride Park, but left at the end of last season after failing to agree a new contract.

Eranio (pictured) stated in May that he would have loved to finish his career with Derby, and he may now be given that opportunity.

Speaking to The Rams` official website, Smith said: "I've spoken to Stefano quite a few times on the telephone but we have not finalised anything.

"There are obviously certain things that need to be sorted out before we go ahead with any kind of deal."

"Stefano has not found anything to his liking in Italy and we would like him to return," added Smith, fuelling further the possibility of an emotional return.

The midfielder`s exit was a massive loss to Derby, and the departure of Rory Delap to Southampton left a major void that Smith planned to fill with Milan ace Daniele Daino.

Milan recently tied the youngster to a new contract, but he is available for loan and has attracted interest from Derby.

The signing of Eranio could cast some doubt on the 21-year-old`s move, but it is understood that there would be place for both Italians at Pride Park.
