BERLIN REMOVE BARRIER FOR MARCELINHO

HERTHA BERLIN have allowed forward Marcelinho to join up with the Brazil squad meaning he will miss next week's Bundesliga match with Freiburg.

Brazil are playing a friendly against lowly Panama and several European clubs are reluctant to release their samba stars for what they regard as an insignificant fixture.

However, Hertha insist the decision was taken for the benefit of the 26-year-old who is keen to make a name for himself with the four-time World Cup winners.

"We were not obliged to release Marcelinho for the Panama game, but we decided to do so because anything else would have been a setback for the player," confirmed general manager Dieter Hoeness.

New signing Marcelinho left the German capital on Saturday for the encounter with Panama and is hopeful of making his international debut.
