MACC GO NAP

MACCLESFIELD TOWN have made a late dip into the summer transfer market, signing an incredible five players in one day.

Steve Wilson has joined the club on a permanent basis after enjoying a successful loan spell at the club last season. Previously, the 27-year-old had spent his entire career with Hull City.

Stockport-born Richard Eyre has moved to Moss Rose after being released by Port Vale at the end of last season.

The 24-year-old midfielder made 48 league appearances for The Valiants, registering just one goal.

Andy McAvoy is another player to return to the North West after being shown the door by Hartlepool United.

Having begun his career with Blackburn Rovers, McAvoy, 21, moved to the Victoria Ground but failed to make much impression on the first-team, clocking up just seven first-team starts.

Goalkeeper Stephen Hodgson will be relishing the prospect of playing for his hometown team after serving his apprenticeship with Manchester City, and the quintet is completed by midfielder Michael Welch, who has signed professional forms after coming through the Macclesfield ranks.

Silkmen boss Gil Prescott told the club's official site: "We got them in, especially Eyre and McAvoy and we were going to take a choice but they've both impressed us that much that we thought we'd be mad to let either go. It was the same situation with the two keepers.

"Their attitude and application has been top drawer and I'm delighted to have been able to get them all.

"Steve Wilson is a ready made product and he's an excellent keeper and I think that anyone who's seen him will agree with that and young Stevie Hodgson is one for the future and I've got faith in his ability.

"I'm more than delighted with the people we've brought in but I'm never a satisfied man and no doubt I'll be mithering the board again in future but I want to say thanks to the board for going out on a limb to give these players to the supporters."
