BABAYARO COMMITS TO CHELSEA

CELISTINE BABAYARO has signed a contract extension with Chelsea tieing him to Stamford Bridge until 2005.

The Nigerian full back looked like he might leave the London side with Graeme Le Saux, Jesper Gronkjaer, Boudewijn Zenden and Jon Harley all competing for a place on the left hand side

However, the recent £3.5 million departure of Harley to neighbours Fulham has convinced the 22-year-old that he is part of Blues manager Claudio Ranieri's future plans.

"With Celestine Babayaro only having one year left on his current deal and six months away from a Bosman, that had to be resolved and he has now signed a new deal taking him up to 2005," Chelsea managing director Colin Hutchinson told the club's official website.
