GAYLE SET FOR HORNETS MOVE

MARCUS GAYLE is close to ending his miserable five-month stay at Rangers with a £1 million move to First Division Watford.

The former Wimbledon hit-man, who joined The Gers last March in a deal worth £900,000, failed to establish himself at Ibrox making just four appearances without scoring.

The 30-year-old ace is keen to get his career back on track and he admitted he is set to sign a two-year deal with Gianluca Vialli's new-look Watford.

"We are about to conclude everything," said Gayle.

"The move to Rangers did not really work out as circumstances at the club did not work out either.

"I just wanted to do it for the Rangers supporters and I want to thank them for their support while I was there.

"I am now looking forward to continuing my career at Watford in the First Division."

The move ends a long search by Vialli for a top-class forward having failed to land Albanian international Igli Tare and lost last-season's top scorer Tommy Mooney on a free transfer to Birmingham City.
