HIBS ACE SUFFERS INJURY BLOW

HIBERNIAN have suffered a major blow with the news that young striker Gary O'Connor will be out of action for six weeks after breaking a bone in his foot.

The 18-year-old ace sustained the injury in Saturday's defeat to Dundee and was forced to be carried off on a stretcher.

Easter Road boss Alex McLeish admitted it was blow to lose the player after he impressed in pre-season.

"It was something of a freak accident," said McLeish.

"He landed very badly after jumping for a high ball, but you often find that the worst injuries are freak incidents, such as a player catching his studs in the turf.

"We wouldn't have been thrusting Gary in right away, as he is still very young and inexperienced, but he'd been looking very lively in the past two or three weeks and had deserved his place in the 16."
