PETRESCU PLAYS DOWN SPURS RUMOURS
Reports had stated Spurs boss Glenn Hoddle, who bought the player at Chelsea and Southampton, was mulling over making a move to bring Petrescu to White Hart Lane, but the player insistsed these were wide of the mark.
The Romanian star was adamant that he would not be joining Spurs as he could not play for another London club having played for Chelsea.
"I played a lot for Chelsea," said Petrescu. "My heart will never beat for another London team.
"I know that it is very hard for a player who has played in London to go to play for another club from London.
"The fans will think of you as a traitor - just look at Sol Campbell and how he is the target of the Tottenham fans' fury."
