GREGORY EXCITED AFTER BALABAN AGREES TERMS

BOSKO BALABAN has agreed personal terms with Aston Villa and only a work permit stands between the striker and a £6 million move from Dinamo Zagreb.

Villa boss John Gregory is confident this will be granted and expressed his view that Balaban will become a 'big hit' with fans in the Midlands.

Balaban is believed to have signed a four-year deal, subject to the work permit being granted, and has returned to Croatia to await the Department of Employment and Education's decision.

At 22, Villa have bought an incredible talent, although it remains to be seen how he adapts to life in The Premiership and if the club can get Balaban into their squad for the opening fixture against Tottenham.

If this does not prove to be the case, Balaban could make his debut in Villa's second game, against Manchester United.

With the acquisition of Balaban, Villa now have four capable strikers with Dion Dublin (pictured) and Darius Vassell joining the club's record signing, Colombian Juan Pablo Angel.

Speaking about the transfer, Gregory said: "I'm delighted we have completed Bosko's transfer.

"He is only 22 but he is already an accomplished goalscorer both at club and international level.

"He also has the high technical qualities associated with players from his region and I am sure he is going to be a big hit with our fans.

"Most importantly, he has been desperate to come to England because he is absolutely determined to do well here.

"He knows it is the place to be and he will be a perfect supplement to our strike force alongside Juan Pablo, Dion and Darius."

Balaban did not play in Zagreb's Uefa Cup win over Flora Tallin, fuelling rumours of a possible deal and if Villa beat Basle he will be available for their subsequent European campaign.
