MADDIX EARNS OWLS DEAL

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY have sealed the signing of Danny Maddix on a free transfer.

The 34-year-old Jamaican international has spent the whole of pre-season with the South Yorkshire side trying to win a permanent deal and now manager Peter Shreeves has handed him a 12-month deal to the former QPR man.

"Over the last few seasons, Sheffield Wednesday have conceded goals too readily," said Maddix. "That was the first thing we needed to sort out.

"In the last five games, we have conceded only once - and that is with a young goalkeeper in the side.

"I think we are along the right lines, but that does not mean to say it will all be easy when we open the season, because it never is.

"I am delighted for Danny Maddix that he has come here. This is the third club at which I have had him and I am aware of his capabilities.

"What I did not know was whether he had fully recovered from his knee injury. He has passed the test and has produced a couple of decent showings in front of the Sheffield public, and they seem to have taken to him."
